Yearning for Freedom: QTBIPOC Taiko
4-Week QTBIPOC Taiko Course for Pride Month!
Service Description
Mondays June 2, 9, 16 & 23, 6:30pm - 8:00pm Lead Instructor: Julie & Chia (RAW Apprentices) QTBIPOC summer taiko is here for Pride month! All Queer &/or Trans community members who also identify as Black, Indigenous, &/or People of Colour are invited to join our 4-week course at Studio RAW! Anchored by the drums, Yearning For Freedom aims to uplift QTBIPOC community members through the sound and movements of taiko, and open our curiosity up to the ways it can bring us closer in community, joy, rage, and transformation. Participants will learn introductory level drills, exercises, and a short song. No taiko experience necessary. Cost: BY DONATION! While online registration is required, participation in this program is Pay-What-You-Can (no one turned away for lack of funds) by cash or card at the door on the first day of the course. We also ask that registrants intend to commit to all 4 sessions - unanticipated absences are ok, but if you know you can’t make it to more than half of the sessions, consider registering for one of our monthly QTBIPOC drop-ins instead!
