FAQ
Who are RAW Programs for?
Studio RAW, as a brick-and-mortar extension of RAW Taiko, seeks to empower and encourage people, prioritising people of colour and of marginalised genders, to find and express their own voice and power, and to influence positive personal, group and societal development, through the practice of taiko.
Our programs are open to the general public (unless otherwise indicated as an affinity space, such as QTBIPOC Drop-In), and we encourage participants to be reflective of the identities and experiences they bring into the studio. For those who do not identify within our priority populations, please consider how you can participate as a supportive ally (and accomplice) as we strive, through taiko, towards a world free of systemic oppressions where our varied identities are celebrated and thriving.
What are your COVID Safety Measures? (last updated Nov 2024)
We kindly ask that participants be up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations prior to arriving to the studio on the first day of classes. Masks are mandatory for all adults 18+ for the entirety of classes. Masks are optional for any participants under the age of 18. We also ask that all participants stay home from Studio RAW activities if they are feeling sick or have symptoms of illness that are new or unusual for them.
Is Studio RAW Wheelchair Accessible?
While RAW made every effort to secure a wheelchair accessible space, viable spaces were extremely limited to us due the noise-allowance requirements of our taiko activities. We regret that Studio RAW is not wheelchair accessible at this time.
- Studio RAW is located on the top/second floor of a low-rise building, and unfortunately, it is not wheelchair accessible. - To access the studio, visitors must walk up one flight of stairs (20 steps) with railing. The stairwell is 45” wide.
- Studio RAW is a low-scent space and RAW regularly uses unscented cleaning products.
- There is one small single stall, all-gender washroom in the studio.
What is your Enrolment Policy?
Studio RAW requires a minimum 50% enrolment rate in order to confirm classes (excluding any drop-in programming). If more than 50% of spots remain unclaimed by 2 weeks prior to the start date, Studio RAW reserves the right to cancel classes. All participants who had enrolled will be given a full refund.
Are your programs open to kids/youth?
All workshops and classes offered at Studio RAW are intended for participants ages 18+ unless stated otherwise. Youth under the age of 18 are welcome to join our youth programs. They may be welcome to join non youth-specific programs only on a case by case basis if accompanied by an adult. Please inquire via email.
Do you offer further subsidized payment options for courses and workshops?
We strive to make our studio programming as accessible as possible via sliding scale pricing for all of our offerings. If the sliding scale pricing of a program remains financially inaccessible to you, we encourage you to inquire with us about further subsidized options.
Do I need to have my own bachi (drumsticks) to participate?
Nope! Bachi are always available to borrow for all of our programs. Optionally, anyone who wants to purchase their very own pair of bachi can do so via our online shop, or in-person at the studio. Feel free to ask your instructor what kind of bachi will be most suitable to your playing style if you are unsure.
