Originating from folk festival drumming on the island of Miyake, this form of taiko was arranged for musical performance by Akio Tsumura, a Miyake Island local, and then shared with and popularized by world-renowned taiko group Kodo in the 1980s. It has since evolved into a style loved and practised widely by taiko groups around the world, including RAW Taiko.
