Service Description

Wednesdays, 4:15-5:45PM Jan 15 - Mar 5 (8 sessions) Lead Instructor: Young (RAW Artistic Director) Our After-School Taiko program welcomes all youth ages 10-13 to learn taiko in a supportive environment, shaped by RAW’s mission to drum as creative resistance for social change, carving space for self-expression, education and community building. This program is inspired by our High School Taiko Clubs, which have been learning spaces that encourage musical education, confidence building, and social connection among youth. The fundamentals of taiko stance, form, grip, and strike will be taught. Sessions will include light warm-ups, taiko history education, introductory rhythms and ensemble playing, and learning select pieces from RAW Taiko’s performance repertoire. No prior taiko experience necessary. Youth COVID Policy: While masks remain mandatory for all adults 18+ participating in Studio RAW programs, masks will be optional for any participants under the age of 18. Sliding scale $275-$350 + HST
