Beginner Odaiko

Service Description

Tuesdays, 6:30-8PM Jan 7 - Feb 25 (8 sessions) Lead Instructor: Wy-J (RAW Member) This 8-session course will cover the fundamentals of odaiko style drumming including stance, form, grip, and strike. "Odaiko" translates to “big drum” and is played on our larger-sized taiko, placed on tall stands that raise the drum to above-shoulder level. Odaiko drumming is one of the more physically demanding styles of taiko and is well-suited for players who are interested in building strength and stamina through drumming. Class will include a warm-up, drills, and learning song excerpts suitable for this style, as well as a short practice song. Previous taiko or movement experience is recommended, but not mandatory.
